Not a Moment to be Bored!!

Aside from Highlands' famous hiking, shopping, and dining, take a look at the following amazing list of special events offered year-round for your pleasure.  Click on the links for complete details and SCROLL DOWN FOR A SPECIAL for week of SEPTEMBER 5.

Highlands Playhouse (one-quarter mile from the Inn) offers first-run movies Thursday through Sunday on a new 35-foot movie screen with Dolby Surround. First Run movies are on the schedule, so click the link above to see what's playing now. They also sell popcorn, candy, soft drinks and wine!!  Their 75th (can you believe it!) Live Theater Season was a huge success and there are some off-season offerings as well.

The Bascom Arts Center (one mile from the Inn) has put Highlands on the map in the art world, and offers a vibrant year-round selection of week-end and week-long adult classes in pottery, painting, and photography for all levels. They also hold wonderful community events such as  Barn Dances and Raku-Firings. There is ALWAYS something to do at The Bascom, so check it all out on their website. Both professional and amateur artists find Colonial Pines Inn a reasonably-priced, and conveniently-located choice for accommodations while studying at The Bascom.

The Martin-Lipscomb Performing Arts Center (half a block from the Inn) offers great off-season entertainment such as Metropolitan Opera Performances in HD and live concerts by country, bluegrass, retro-rock, and Broadway artists. The PAC, as we call it, is also home to The Highlands-Cashiers Community Players offering "Mama Won't Fly" in May & June; and The Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival opens their 33rd season of top-quality professional chamber music concerts in June, July, & August. Don't miss this incredible talent!

The Highlands Chamber of Commerce maintains a Calendar of Events organized by dates to make things easier for you.  They sponsor the annual CHILI COOK-OFF in March, a toe-tapping evening for residents and visitors alike featuring live music, dancing, chili, salsa, cornbread, wine & beer for only $20 per person!! They also sponsor two free music gatherings for all to enjoy June through August: FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE and SATURDAY IN THE PARK.

The Laurel Magazine is a beautifully printed monthly magazine about Highlands featuring news, stories, events, dining & shopping. It's another good source for finding out what's going on and you can look at it online at the above link. You will also want to pick up a free hard copy to take home when you're in town.

The Center for Life Enrichment with the motto "The Curious Mind Knows No Bounds," offers valuable adult continuing education classes since 1992 in the Peggy Crosby Center (3/4 mile from the Inn).

Who knew there was so much to do in Highlands!! When we first became Innkeepers in 1984, there were only a few Summer happenings.  My how times have changed. At this writing, there are events yet to be scheduled, so please click the links above for more current details.
And if relaxing in a  rocking chair, sipping tea, and breathing cool mountain air is more your style than throwing pots at The Bascom (see photo), we offer that right here at Colonial Pines!!
